Khar Addas

Khar Adda : The members decided to increase the scope of activities offline as well and further create a bond beyond the net amongst the people of Assam living in Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal. The offline meet of the community was held on November 1, 2009 at Mani Square.
The initiative was taken by Bikramjit (from Dibrugarh), Sanjipa (from Silchar), Ankan, Upakul, Ashim, Mriganka (all from Guwahati), Bikash, Prabahan (both from Namrup), Bhaskar (from Nagaon) and Biswajit (from Golaghat). There it was decided to organise a community picnic as the first major offline activity. After much deliberations, Taki - on the Indo-Bangladesh border - was decided as the destination for the picnic.

The second get-together on November 8, 2009, evoked a very good response with more than 20 participants. Everyone was excited about the picnic and elaborate plans were made. 15th November was fixed as the date for the picnic and the active members started the activites of collecting funds and making the arrangements for food and vehicle.

The picnic to Taki turned out to be an enjoyable experience for the members and everyone wanted another such outing in future. The most enoyable part was the trip to Machranga island on the Ichamati river on board a ferry owned by the Taki Municipality. Everybody went about the island doing photo sessions and loitering around. After lunch, the group made a visit to the Mini Sundarban which is being built by the Taki municipality with trees like Sundari, Golpata, etc which are a rarity but can be widely seen along the Sundarban area. The lunch, tea and snacks were arranged by Suhasini Guest House at Taki.

After the successful picnic, the members of the community continued to meet on Sundays (mostly at City Centre). New faces were there in every meeting as the number of members kept increasing day by day. The number of members in the community since the first offline meet has increased from  400 to 570. During the last meet of the community members at Princep Ghat on January 10, 2010, a community get-together and dinner was planned on the occasion of Bhogali (Magh) Bihu - on Uruka evening.

And there was no stopping after that boisterous Magh Bihu celebrations....

The saga continues....
